PEACEFilter
How much water can the PEACEFilter clean in a day?
There are several variables, but if the filter is clean, the water isn’t too dirty and you use the recommended five-gallon bucket, you should get more than 250 gallons per day. In an ideal situation you may get closer to 300 gallons per day.
Keep in mind that flow rates are determined by a combination of variables including:
- The filter – there can be very small variations in each individual PEACEFilter.
- How clean you keep the filter
- The altitude – the lower the altitude the faster the flow.
- The pressure of the water above where the hose is attached. The more water in the container the more pressure generated and the faster the flow.
What do I do if water doesn’t flow through the filter on the first use?
Sometimes the water might have a little trouble getting through the filter on the first try because it has to overcome the air pressure in an empty filter. Especially if there isn’t much pressure because the water container is small.
In that case just use the back flushing syringe and fill the filter with CLEAN water. Then try again and the water should start flowing right away.
Does the PEACEFilter improve the taste of the water?
The PEACEFilter will help with the taste of the water if a bad taste is caused by any bacteria, sediment or other contaminants that are removed in the filtering process.
Some people use Gatorade or other flavorings to mask any bad taste, but these additives should be added to the water AFTER it’s been filtered and NOT run through the filter.
Should the water be pre-filtered before running it through the PEACEFilter?
As with any filter, the cleaner the water run through the PEACEFilter, the better, and faster, it will work.
You also won’t have the clean the filter by back flushing it as often if the water is cleaner. However, prefiltering is not necessary.
Yes, you can run muddy water through the PEACEFilter.
And remember, The PEACEFilter has a built in prefilter that catches larger items and prevents them from clogging the filter.
Also, when you drill the hole for attaching the tubing about an inch and a half from the bottom, the heavier contaminants, like sediments, will naturally fall to the bottom below where the water flows from the bucket.
What does the back flushing process involve?
Simply fill the syringe with clean water, connect it to the “out” side of filter and force water in the opposite direction of the way it flows when cleaning the water. Do this until the water flushing back into the water bucket looks clear.
This may takes 3 – 6 syringes full of the clean water. Then throw the back flushed water out, clean the bucket and start filtering water again.
How often should I back flush my filter?
We recommend daily back flushing when the filter is in constant use. It only takes a couple of minutes and will add to the life of the filter.
If your flow rate begins to slow then that’s a good indicator that you need to back flush your filter.
Does the water I use to back flush the PEACEFilter need to be clean?
Yes! If you mistakenly use dirty water to back flush your filter immediately run a few liters of clean water through it and get rid of the contaminants before ingesting any water run through the filter at that point.
Do I have to use a five-gallon bucket?
Not necessarily.
You can use any sized bucket, but the smaller it is, the slower the flow of water due to less pressure being produced by the weight of the water.
You can pretty much use any kind of container that you can drill a 13/16 in hole into. But keep in mind that the container needs to be clean. We advise you NOT to use a container that was ever used for chemicals or anything toxic.
Will the PEACEFilter remove virus?
No. The PEACEFilter removes contaminants that are larger than 0.1 microns, which is all that’s needed for the vast majority of people that need to clean unsafe water.
If you need to get rid of virus you will need to get a 0.02 micron filter, which is much more expensive and has a much slower flow rate.
Typically, viruses with the ability to survive in water are hepatitis and Polio, which are pretty rare. And you can check with the Centers for Disease Control and Protection for information on where virus may affect the water in different places around the world.
Will the PEACEFilter remove salt?
No. Removing salt from water requires a different process.
How are the PEACEFilters tested?
The PEACEFilters have been tested by independent and highly regarded research laboratories according to EPA standards. For test results click here to read the reports.
Do you ship the PEACEFilter anywhere in the world?
Yes! However, you need to keep in mind that some countries may have taxes and/or fees for bringing imports into a country. Any additional costs above our price of $15 per filter kit will be the responsibility of the AHN client.
